Close Season

Harlaw and Threipmuir are now closed, no fishing is allowed on either reservoir. We open again on the 1st of April 2020.

Stevie Borwick landed this fantastic 6-7lb rainbow during a July Sunday afternoon session at Harlaw. The fish took an Olive Dancer fly, and was returned alive.

There was a bonus stocking of approximately 50 large fish (6 to 12lb) in June. The fish have remained largely uncaught due to the hot weather and hard fishing conditions. They should be well dispersed in the reservoir now so that next hit could be something really special.

Earlier in the month 9lb 14oz fish was also landed.

Thanks to everyone who made it along to the open day. By all accounts it was a great day, thanks to those who could spare their time and expertise to make it a success. Journalist Nigel Duncan was in attendance and has supplied us with some great candid photographs and interviews that were recorded for Crystal FM. Head Bailiff Jim McComb was on the BBQ (not literally, he was the chef) and took donations for £100 for Kids Love Clothes, a charity for which he volunteers. Many of our members gave up their time to provide fly tying information, casting instruction and general information.

Balerno Village Trust are hosting their AGM and open evening on Wednesday 27th June 2018, 7 to 9pm at the St Joseph's Centre, Balerno. Anyone interested in the future plans for Harlaw House is welcome to attend. There will be a presentation, refreshments and chance to discuss the project. Sam Foster appointed architect for the project will be at the open evening.

Balerno Village Trust are investigating leasing Harlaw House Visitor Centre from Edinburgh City Council to improve facilities and develop or expand the services offered.

Hear details of our Hooked on Harlaw open day as reported by Nigel Duncan for Crystal FM (107.4FM).

Some nice brown trout for a group of visiting American anglers fishing Threipmuir on an Orvis guided day. Orvis have a shop with fly fishing section a few miles from the reservoir in Edinburgh city centre. Thanks to Lee Currie, Orvis guide, for sending in the photos.
