Close Season

Harlaw and Threipmuir are now closed, no fishing is allowed on either reservoir. We open again on the 1st of April 2020.

After a major refurbishment Balerno Post Office is now open again and available to sell day permits. Formerly known as The Letter Box Bistro, look for Carlyle's Bar and Kitchen in the same location on Main Street, Balerno. As well as the Post Office counter, Carlyle's Bar and Kitchen, as the name suggests, also offer food and drink. See their new website to book a table. Thanks all at Carlyle's Bar and Kitchen for their continued investment in Balerno.

A few pictures from the last week or so. Lots of fly life now on the reservoir and the trout feeding well. Great time of year to visit. In the pictures we've got Rainbow, Blue and Brown trout. Thanks to Eddie Wells, GP Goh and Rob Horsfield for the pictures.

It's nothing but good news on this website as we can announce another winner of our monthly prize draw. If you name is Philip Mowbray and you bought an e Permit in May, number 26023 then you've just landed a free day fishing! All Philip had to do was complete and return his catch return. Easy, eh?! MAA Bailiff, Member and all round excellent cardboard box holder, Eddie Hiroz was on hand to assist a day permit angler in this months draw. Thanks Eddie, and thanks Day Permit Angler. Watch this space for more good news in July!

On Thursday 17th May 2018 five MAA members met Tommy McManmon of Natural Heritage at Harlaw House to carry out tree planting on the north shore of Harlaw Reservoir. They planted approximately 90 trees which took 4 hours. Thanks to Robin Persaud, John Balfour, Hugh Wilson all MAA Member, Robert Ross - MAA Chairman and Alan Holbrook - MAA Secretary.
